What to Do in West Corfu in 5 Days – A Complete, Practical Itinerary

If you’re planning a stay on the west coast of Corfu, you’re choosing one of the island’s most dramatic and naturally beautiful regions. The west side is known for its cliffs, turquoise waters and unforgettable sunsets — but also for its balance between accessibility and tranquility.

This 5-day itinerary is designed for travellers staying around Ermones, offering a realistic plan with manageable driving distances, beach variety and authentic local experiences.

All driving times are calculated from Ermones.

Day 1 – Ermones & Ropa Valley (Easy Arrival Day)

Morning: Ermones Beach

Start your holiday slowly at Ermones Beach, just a few minutes walking from your hotel room. Surrounded by steep green hills, the beach feels enclosed and scenic, especially in the morning light when the sea is calmer and fewer visitors have arrived. If you walk toward the rocky edges, you’ll often find quieter spots away from the central area. It’s the perfect first-day beach: close, beautiful and stress-free after travel. After your Splash, you can visit the on-the-shore Taverna – Maria, which is a traditional resturant with local food offerings and a spot offering a beach view.

What to expect:
⦁ Deep blue waters
⦁ Dramatic cliffs
⦁ Organised and quieter sections

Afternoon: Ropa Valley Scenic Drive

After lunch, take a short drive inland toward Corfu Golf Club and the wider Ropa Valley area. This landscape feels completely different from the coastline — wide, open countryside with olive groves stretching toward low hills. It’s a peaceful contrast to the beaches and a wonderful introduction to rural Corfu. Small villages like Vatos and Giannades offer glimpses of traditional island life, where elderly locals sit outside and time seems to slow down. If you enjoy photography, late afternoon light here is especially beautiful.

The Ropa Valley offers:
⦁ Olive groves
⦁ Quiet cycling routes
⦁ Traditional inland villages
Evening: Sunset from Philoxenia Pool Bar
Instead of driving far for sunset, take a rest from your first day at your Headquarters – Philoxenia Hotel, where you can enjoy the sunset while tasting our famous and well – reviewed Mojito cocktail! The pool of our Hotel offers one of the best sunset views on the island – see for yourself!

Day 2 – Dramatic West Coast Beaches

Morning: Yali (Giali) Beach
The closest beach to Ermones is Yali Beach Corfu, a lesser-known beach that feels more raw and natural than the larger sandy resorts. The road down is steep and narrow and that’s part of why it remains quieter, but don’t worry – it is also accessible by a taxi boat from Ermones beach! With a small fee you can be there in ~5 minutes with your whole family safely. The mix of pebbles and coarse sand gives the water exceptional clarity, and the cliffs behind the beach create a dramatic backdrop. It’s not organised, which appeals to travellers seeking a more untouched setting. Bring water and essentials, especially during peak season.

Why visit:
⦁ Crystal-clear water
⦁ Fewer crowds
⦁ Dramatic cliff scenery
⦁ Must see – One of the best beaches in Corfu
Afternoon: Glyfada Beach

Just a short drive away ( ~ 10 minutes) is Glyfada Beach Corfu, one of the best sandy beaches on the island. Unlike Yali, Glyfada offers more facilities, organised sunbeds and water sports. The long stretch of sand makes it especially suitable for families, and the shallow entry in certain sections allows for easier swimming. If you prefer a quieter experience, walk toward the far ends of the beach where it becomes less crowded. It’s a good balance day: natural beauty in the morning, comfort and facilities in the afternoon.

Evening: Pelekas Village

End your day in Pelekas, a charming hilltop village overlooking much of the island. A short walk leads to Kaiser’s Throne viewpoint, named after Kaiser Wilhelm II, who once admired the panoramic views from this spot. From here, you can see both east and west coasts on clear days. The atmosphere is relaxed, and several tavernas offer outdoor seating with sunset views — ideal for couples or a calm family dinner.

Day 3 – Paleokastritsa & Coastal Exploration

Morning: Paleokastritsa Coves

Drive north to Paleokastritsa, and in ~20 minutes you will be in one of Corfu’s most iconic coastal areas. What makes Paleokastritsa special isn’t just the main beaches, but the hidden coves scattered between rocky headlands. Renting a small motorboat (no license required) allows you to access sea caves and swim in secluded turquoise bays that cannot be reached on foot, or if you don’t want to bother, you can always take a taxi boat. Early morning is the best time to avoid traffic and crowds, especially in July and August.

Midday: Monastery of Paleokastritsa
Overlooking the bays stands the Monastery of Paleokastritsa, dating back to the 13th century. The monastery grounds are beautifully maintained, with gardens and terraces offering panoramic sea views. Inside, you’ll find religious icons and a small museum. The setting alone is worth the visit, even for non-religious travellers.
Evening: Lakones Village
Above Paleokastritsa lies Lakones, often called the “Balcony of the Ionian.” The narrow village streets lead to viewpoints offering some of the most breathtaking panoramas on the island. Dining here in the evening combines traditional Corfiot cuisine with spectacular views over the bays below — a memorable highlight of any 5-day trip.

Day 4 – Porto Timoni & Northwest Adventure

Morning: Porto Timoni Double Beach

Drive ~50 minutes from Ermones toward the village of Afionas. From there, you start hiking a ~30min path as you follow signs for Porto Timoni.

Porto Timoni is one of the most unique natural formations in Corfu: a double beach separated by a narrow strip of land, with two different shades of blue on each side. One side usually has calmer water, while the other can be slightly more open to waves.

The view from above is spectacular and one of the most photographed spots on the island.

Access Tips:
⦁ Park in Afionas village (paid and limited parking in summer).
⦁ Walk downhill for about 15–20 minutes on a rocky path.
⦁ Wear proper shoes — not flip-flops.
⦁ Bring water (no organised facilities on the beach).

This spot is ideal for:
⦁ Couples
⦁ Adventurous travellers
⦁ Strong swimmers
⦁ Photography lovers

It’s not the easiest beach to access, but that’s exactly what keeps it special. If hiking is not for you, this beach again, is accessible by taxi boats from Agios Georgios Pagon.

Midday: Afionas Village Lunch
After hiking back up, have lunch in Afionas, one of the most beautiful traditional villages in northwest Corfu.

Afionas is built amphitheatrically above the sea, offering panoramic views across the Ionian. Its narrow alleys, whitewashed houses and flower-filled courtyards create a peaceful, authentic atmosphere.

Choose a taverna with terrace seating and enjoy:
⦁ Fresh seafood
⦁ Local Corfiot dishes
⦁ Slow, relaxed island pace

This is one of the most romantic lunch spots on the island.
Afternoon Arillas Beach
Later, head to Arillas Beach, known for its calm atmosphere and laid-back vibe.

Arillas is:
⦁ Less crowded than Paleokastritsa
⦁ Ideal for sunset walks
⦁ Popular with couples seeking quiet relaxation

The beach is wide and sandy, with shallow entry points suitable for children.

Day 5 – Corfu Town & Culture

Morning: Corfu Old Town

Drive to Corfu Town ( ~ 20 minutes), our UNESCO-listed old town blending Venetian, French and British influences. Wander through narrow alleys (kantounia), explore the Liston promenade and visit the Old Fortress. The architecture alone makes it one of the most distinctive towns in Greece.

Afternoon: Kanoni Viewpoint

Before returning west, stop at Kanoni for the famous view of Mouse Island and the Vlacherna Monastery. It’s one of the island’s most photographed spots and a fitting cultural finale to your 5-day stay. Photography tip: In front of the Vlacherna Monastery there is a very narrow passage that you can stand and be right beneath the landing planes – they fly just a few meters above you!

Why West Corfu Is the Smart Base

Staying around Ermones gives you access to beaches, villages, countryside and the capital within short driving distances — without the congestion of larger resort areas. It’s a balanced choice for families and couples who want variety without constantly relocating. And then, after your long days of beach, food and cultural exploration, you can for sure relax and recharge your batteries in a peaceful, scenic and romantic setting!
